Early Life and Education
Rabbi Padwa was born in London to Rabbi Joseph Padwa and is a third-generation member of the distinguished Padwa rabbinic dynasty. His grandfather, Rabbi H.B. Padwa, served as the spiritual leader of the Orthodox Jewish community in the United Kingdom and was one of the most influential rabbis in post-war British Jewry.
He received his early rabbinic education in London, where he studied practical halacha and Jewish theology under the guidance of his grandfather at the Padwa Talmudic Centre and College. He later continued his studies in Jerusalem at the Belz International College, further developing his expertise in Jewish law.
Rabbinic Career
Following his marriage in Zürich, Switzerland, in 1983, Rabbi Padwa continued his advanced Torah studies at the renowned Zürich Kollel.
In 1993, he received semicha (rabbinic ordination) from the Belz Rabbinical Court in Israel. The following year, he was appointed Rabbi of the Belz community in Zürich while also serving as Kashrus Administrator of the Israelitische Religionsgesellschaft (IRG) in Zürich. During this period, he worked closely with the distinguished Rabbi Daniel Levy זצ"ל.
In 2000, Rabbi Padwa was appointed Kosher Administrator for the Rabbinical Council of Europe, headquartered in Brussels near the European Parliament. Four years later, he received certification from the Paris Beth Din, signed by the Chief Rabbi of Paris, Rabbi Cohen, authorizing him to oversee matters relating to Jewish marriage and divorce.
Kashrus Expertise
Rabbi Padwa is widely recognized as one of Europe's foremost authorities on kashrus. His combination of extensive halachic knowledge and deep technical understanding of modern food production has enabled him to resolve complex kosher certification challenges across a wide range of industries.
His expertise is sought by leading kosher certification organizations around the world, including the Orthodox Union (OU), OK Kosher Certification, the Badatz of Jerusalem, Rabbi Rubin, Rabbi Landau, and Rabbi Seckbach, among many others.
Antwerp
In 2022, Rabbi Padwa relocated to Antwerp, where he joined the rabbinic leadership of the Shomre Hadas community as Chief Rabbi of Antwerp. Alongside this role, he continues to serve within the Kashrut Certification Service (KCS), contributing his extensive experience to kosher supervision throughout Europe and beyond.
